Santa Cesarea Terme

Sea and wellness just minutes from B&B Zio Cici

Santa Cesarea Terme is one of the most captivating destinations on the Adriatic side of Salento, famous for its thermal waters and elegant 19th-century villas. Perched dramatically on high cliffs, the town offers breathtaking sea views and unforgettable sunsets.

From B&B Zio Cici, Santa Cesarea Terme is just a short drive or e-bike ride away – the perfect starting point for a day of wellness, exploration, and the authentic beauty of Salento.

A village born between history and legend

The origins of Santa Cesarea Terme are tied to the legend of Cesaria, a young girl who sought refuge in a coastal cave to escape her violent father. According to tradition, from that very cave flowed the sulphurous waters that still make the town famous today.

Officially founded in the early 20th century from the union of the nearby hamlets of Vitigliano and Cerfignano, Santa Cesarea is now one of the best-known spa destinations in Puglia. Its thermal baths and healing muds are ideal for relaxation and stress relief.

What to see in Santa Cesarea Terme

In addition to the spa treatments, the town enchants visitors with its refined architecture. Villa Sticchi, Santa Cesarea’s symbol, overlooks the cliffs with its striking Moorish design. Also noteworthy are Villa Raffaella, once the summer residence of a local baroness, and Palazzo Tamborino (also known as Miramare), which clings dramatically to the cliffside – all reminders of the town’s aristocratic past.

From the scenic overlook framed by Aleppo pines, you can enjoy sweeping views of Salento’s southern coast, all the way to Santa Maria di Leuca. Other must-sees include the Church of the Sacred Heart, which houses beautiful papier-mâché statues, and the natural thermal caves – Gattulla, Fetida, Solfatara, and Solfurea.

Sea and stunning nature

The sea in Santa Cesarea is crystal-clear and mesmerizing, though swimming can be tricky due to the high cliffs. Private lidos offer sun decks and seawater pools, making them ideal even for families.

Just outside the center lies the spectacular Porto Miggiano Bay – a small cove tucked between golden cliffs, featuring a small strip of sandy beach. The best way to enjoy it safely is to reach it by pedal boat or small boat from the nearby harbor.

Santa Cesarea is also a great base for nearby excursions: just 5 km away is Porto Badisco, known for its peaceful coves, and 15 km away is Otranto – the jewel of the Adriatic coast of Salento.
